2011 week-42 South Sound chum Apple Cove Point purse-seine test fishery results (10/12/2011)

The first day of 2011 test fishing at Apple Cove Point was poor.

The tides were deemed to be moderately favorable, with the flood beginning around mid-morning.

We caught a total of 45 chum (along with 9 coho and 2 Chinook) in six sets. The breakdown by set was:

Set 1      1 chum (plus 2 coho)

Set 2      14 chum (plus 1 coho)

Set 3      5 chum (plus 1 coho and 1 Chinook)

Set 4      9 chum

Set 5      9 chum (plus 5 coho)

Set 6      7 chum (plus 1 Chinook)

The chum catch was 35.6% female. The age-breakdown of the chum catch 5% age-5, 95% age-4, and 0% age-3.

The 2011 pre-season forecast total for South/Central Sound chum was around 487,500 (430,000 wild + 57,500 hatchery).
