2011 week-46 South Sound chum Apple Cove Point purse-seine test fishery results (11/8/2011)

Test fishing for South Sound chum at Apple Cove Point concluded today with moderate success.

Our first three sets, fished on the morning ebb tide produced small catches, but the three afternoon sets, fished on the flood tide, provided somewhat better catches, by week-46 standards.

We caught a total of 620 chum (and 1 coho) in six sets. The breakdown by set was:

Set 1      10 chum

Set 2      3 chum

Set 3      20 chum

Set 4      93 chum

Set 5      272 chum

Set 6      222 chum (plus 1 coho)

Our chum sample was 44% female. The age-breakdown will be posted here when it becomes available.
