2012 week-43 South Sound chum Apple Cove Point purse-seine test fishery results (10/24/2012)

Today was the third week of test fishing for South Puget Sound chum at Apple Cove Point near Kingston. Catches were “spotty” with three decent sets and three poor sets.

We caught a total of 1,005 chum in six purse seine sets:

Set 1 – 18 chum (and 2 immature Chinook)

Set 2- 251 chum (and 6 coho)

Set 3 – 151 chum (and 4 coho and 1 immature Chinook)

Set 4 – 29 chum (and 3 coho and 1 immature Chinook)

Set 5- 556 chum (and 12 coho)

Set 6 – no chum (1 coho)

The age breakdown was 57% age-3, 33% age-4, and 10% age-5.

The sample (n=181) was 68% females, which is higher than normal for week 43.
